Adoption of a German child - notarisation ex officio

Once the adoption procedure before the family court has been completed, it is automatically notarised in the register of births.

If you require new birth certificates or newcertified printouts from the register of births, you can apply for these.

If you have adopted your child abroad, you must apply for notarisation in Germany.

Details

Prerequisite

Your child was born in Germany and you adopted it in Germany.

Procedure

The family court that has granted the adoption sends its decision to the registry office of the place of birth of your adopted child.

The registry office completes the register of births and forwards the information to the following registry offices:

  • the registry office that Birth entries for the child's biological parents
  • the registry office that keeps the birth records for the adoptive parents
  • the registry office that keeps the marriage entry for the child if the child's name has changed

The birth register contains data on both the biological and adoptive parents. For example, there can be no marriage with siblings. A birth certificate, on the other hand, only shows the current circumstances.
